Introducing the Essex Austin Seven Club

The Essex Austin Seven Club has a history of success to be proud of. From modest beginnings in 1974 when the first six members gathered over a pint in the Marlborough Arms in Rochford we've come to today with our current 300+ members and associate members and an ever growing membership list.

Among its ranks are many ordinary folk who wouldn't know an engine from a gearbox, those who are really keen and seek out as many hints and tips as they can and those who are just in it for fun - all come along to club night where they are able mingle and impart and share information with some of the best Austin Seven mechanics and engineers in the country who dispense free advice and the odd shoulder to cry on when things go wrong. They can and they do!

Over the past ten years, we have seen unparalleled growth in membership, with new members even being recruited from as far away as the USA and the Canary Islands. This growth has not taken place by coincidence. First there is of course the universal and ever growing interest in the wonderful little car the Austin Seven, but coupled with that, the EA7C growth has been achieved in no small way by sheer hard work from many dedicated club members who only want to see the club continue to thrive and succeed.

Within the limits of our size we hold a wide range of activities throughout the year which would be the envy of many of our much larger sister clubs. Including club nights, by the end of this year we will have held more than 30 separate meetings of one kind or another. As a club however, we consciously tend to organise local rallies leaving the long distance or more involved events to others more experienced. This has come about by the fact that excluding overseas members, geographically most members live within driveable distance of our monthly meeting place where we meet on the third Wednesday of the month or from one of our Sunday runs which are purposely arranged to encompass all corners of the county.
To this end, in 1998, conscious of our members who live in Suffolk who were finding it difficult to attend meetings in Essex on a regular basis, we started the Suffolk Centre of the EA7C. Since then, although Suffolk is still a small group, month on month we are continuing to attract new members and we are looking forward to the new centre's first home-grown run in April of this year!

But the final key to the EA7C success story must be that although our members have a common interest in the Austin Seven, we are as much a social club as a car club, enjoying each others company where we can whether it's on one of events, during club night, or even meeting outside from the club's activities.

Be a part of it - join today and become an Essex Austin Sevenner!!
